Allegro Non Troppo addresses the National Apology Interviews with Martin Pascoe and Senator Lyn Allison.
Martin has been involved with Joy 94.9 for some years, none of us knew that Martin was one of the stolen generation, it came a quite a shock to us and effected Addam quite emotionally (Not the wavy voice at times)

Old, Gay, proud and OUT! Addam Peter, Guests Gordon Young and Jane Kent
In the G&L cultures older people used to be invisible, but that’s changing. There has been a huge increase in community and social collectives for older gay people. IN the past the impetus for G&L communities has been to develop support frameworks for young people and those who are just coming out, but there has been little done to develop support structures for older gay and lesbian people. Is coming out later in life still the crisis that is for young people? Does being a little more experienced and aware make the coming out process easier of harder? What are the stories from Older G&L People?

Youth Week 2008. Joy 94.9 has for the last 5 years, taken onboard the spirit of youth week. In fact the whole station has taken the bold move to make a generational shift in the stations profile, and we have trained and engaged a lot of our younger community as an investment in our future, and investment for the benefit of the whole community. It has been a remarkable success and we owe this to the generosity and support of the Foundation for Young Australians. For youth week 2008 we asked Celia Capkin to co-host the show. Celia is a remarkable young lady who has a passionate and skilled interest in radio-craft. She joined Peter and Addam to interview Micah Scott who is a 19 year old gay man, as we recount the story of his coming out, and we reflect on the issues that young gay and lesbians face.

Gender
In this show we looked at the personal issues and stories of two gender changed people. Michael Mardel is Female-to-male, and Amanda Monroe is Male to Female. I had intended to look at the issue of Drag, but personal stories of the two guest was so absorbing and real that we ended up discussing and hearing about their history and journey through gender changes. We got a lot of feedback about this show. Here is a link to some Australian Transgender sits (Thanks to Amanda Monroe for compiling this list)

Mistress Petra the Dominatrix - this was another deep and quite confronting interview, the cross examination of Mistress Petra. She was frank, open and honest and powerful. She completely held her repose in spite of our very direct and blatant questions. This was quite a revealing interview, and I was not expecting the depths of Domination that Mistress Petra explores, I had though it might be just a bit naughty, but there is a serious side to it as well, listen for the Slave Digging their own grave for live burial, and the person staked out and tied up before the advancing high tide. This is real, raw and honest.

Dying with Dignity: Dr Rodney Syme and Neil Frances. This was an intense interview, for me personally, and I am not sure why. The interviewees take their position and mission seriously. I was impressed with that fact, having interviewed other "right to death" campaigners in the past, I think I came into this interview supportive but cynical. These men were did not appear to be here to promote themselves or make money. I have since heard Dr Syme on other radio stations (all on May 5th) and I am pleased we were able to do a 43 minute interview, so that we could explore the deeper consequences of their philosophical ideals, and the practical outcomes they are putting forward. For the more serious listener, who may want to follow the process I employed to the interview I will make the abstract notes available.

The Church and the Homosexual. Can one be gay and Christian? Allegro Non Troppo frequently explores these ethical issues. Father Nigel Wright (esteemed Anglican priest) and Melbourne writer and academic John Heard (AKA as catholic blogger dreadnought) talk about their opinions and experiences. We also discuss the religious aspects of gay unions. Addam and Peter would like to acknowledge how much we appreciate both Father Nigel and John Heard as frequent contributors to the development of our community awareness. School's out and young men’s issues. Michael Colling from ‘Schools Out’ programme, discusses the challenges and outcomes for young adolescent men and we discuss this in reference to sexuality issues. IT was refreshing to hear that there is a change of social attitudes in many schools situations making life a little easier for Gay &Lesbian youth. Even though there is good news it is evident that sexuality is still an issue that causes a great deal of anxiety, and can lead to depression and isolation. There was a lot of feedback to this broadcast.

Gay Dads! Homosexuals wanting to be parents is a quite a political and ethical hot potatoe at the moment. Why? Why do so many politicians consider that Gay men (In particular) in relationships or single, do not qualify as having qualities to make them good parents? In this show we look at 2 situations, Damien in Adelaide who does long term foster care with the blessing of all governments and communities, and Jason and Adrian who used overseas surrogacy to become parents.

Piss Pots! Part one: What are the real issues for communities and binge drinking? While all communities are effected by alcohol from being a “social lubricant” to being “Rocket fuel” for violence and harm, the gay and lesbian communities around Australia are frequently on the receiving end. There has been some response from government, we talk to assistant police commissioner Gary Jamison, and some locals with experience. Tim Wilson form the Institute of Public Affairs Victoria and Garret Teters Youth worker discuss and debate the issues.
Over 2 weeks allegro looks at the incidence and response to the sudden interest in drinking in youth culture, and looking at the crimes that have been levelled at our community, that are most frequently fuelled by alcohol.

Part two: Violence. One of the main consequences of alcohol over-use in the community is not so much the effect directly, it's what happens to Gay and Lesbian people from other sections of the Community. Homosexuals have been on the receiving end of violence for ever. Most of the violence seems to be linked to alcohol. Here are 2 stories of Gay men who have been through savage attacks. Greg Adkins from Anti-Violence Project tells us about the AVP. Greg and Alex tells us their personal experiences - it's quite graphic, but compelling, and just when we though we might "be safe"? How safe are we?

Lyn Morgain from the ALSO foundation who has been instrumental in orchestrating the community response, Ken Campangolo who is at the centre of this, and Rob Mitchell who is driving the issues from reform.

Married! Homosexual men in Australia are not worthy of marriage according to the bi-partisan approach to this issue by the Government and opposition coalition (and some minor parties). Yet married they frequently are, in all but title. Mac & Geoff have been together for 60 years, and it is with the greatest reverence that Allegro non Troppo asks them their stories. Andrew and Donnie eloped to Canada to get married.
This is a good starting point to look at the issue of Gay Marriage. Married, registered relationship, or civil union – the love that two people share regardless of gender or sexuality, is the foundation of family.

The acceptance of gay relationships as equal to marriage?. Whether we want it or not it looks like the western world is moving towards the acceptance of gay relationships as equal to marriage. There has been careful use of language to not use the term ‘marriage’. Civil unions, registered relationships are starting to pop up around the world as viable options. In the USA the notorious proposition 8 has indicated that the USA is not ready to recognise same sex unions, according to the outcome of the plebiscite conducted with the US elections On Allegro today we are going to look at what actually is a marriage and do we want it. Marriage of some form exists in most cultures, in western society Christianity has created marriage as a sanctity that exists between a man and a woman only and that’s where the problem for gay unions lies. Do we want to be married, we’ve never had the option, so why would we? Outspoken writer and academic John Heard will join us for this debate, and Stephen Smith the Co-Convener of VGLRL .
